In 1968 Klaus Sr. founded the iconic Nienkämper showroom, introducing contemporary European designs to Canadians, and establishing a hub for the local architecture and design scene. 300 King Street East served as the anchor for what would become known as the King East Design District. Nienkämper soon began manufacturing furniture, solidifying the family name as synonymous with contemporary and lasting products that are proudly made in Canada – a reputation that continues to thrive today.
His son Klaus, rejuvenated the showroom as KLAUS by Nienkämper in 2001, catering to the next generation of design enthusiasts hungry for new ideas as well as edgy furnishings. Now, having set the pace for Toronto’s design community for over twenty years, Klaus is evolving the business once again.
